Come and enjoy the fun at Monrovia's Citywide Spelling Bee

Books, Medals, Gift Cards and Ribbons.  These will be awards given at the Despicable Bee Citywide Spelling Bee today, Saturday, April 12th, to top spellers in Monrovia.  Come and support your school as Mayflower, Bradoaks, Plymouth, Immaculate Conception, Monroe, Clifton, and Santa Fe battle it out in what is always an intense, fun, and exciting event.  Monrovia Reads is providing the books and gift cards and Catherine McCallum, who is one of four judges and our Spell Master, is providing the medals and ribbons.  The year, Aira Villareal, a former Spelling Bee winner from Santa Fe who is now attending Monrovia High School, will join Catherine, June Richetts, and I as the panel of judges.  Assisting in the planning and organization of this year’s citywide spelling are four students from Monrovia High School Math and Science Academy, Dalton Reynolds, Taylor Hechanova, Joe Cox and Nikko Cabal. The Teen Advisory Board from the Monrovia Public Library will be offering snacks and drinks for purchase before, during, and after the event.  If you ever wondered what a spelling bee is all about and have thoughts of one day participating, please join us for this free event.  It is great fun for all the family.  Competition begins at 1:00 in the Community Center.
