Fire Danger for Angeles National Forest Above Monrovia Downgraded to 'High'

The reason for the downgrade was because of the recent rains, the U.S. Forest Service said.

MONROVIA, CA — Because of the recent rains, the wildfire danger level for the Angeles National Forest and San Gabriel Mountains National Monument was downgraded Wednesday from "very high" to "high."

"Winter rains have brought much-needed precipitation to the Southland, raising fuel moisture levels across the forest," said Nathan Judy of the U.S. Forest Service. "We will continue to assess fire danger in the coming months and modify restriction as needed."

Fire restrictions for the forest are determined by a graduated system that becomes more restrictive as fire danger levels increase, and less restrictive as conditions improve.
