Foothill Extension Project Construction Makes 'Significant Progress'

Several at-grade crossings have reopened with two more scheduled to be back in business next week.

Progress on the Foothill Extension project continues to move forward at a quick and steady pace, officials said today.

Two more at-grade crossings are scheduled to re-open next week and station platforms are visible to motorists in Arcadia, Monrovia, and Duarte, Construction Authority Chief Executive Officer Habib F. Balian wrote in an update on the project.

Platforms will soon be visible in Irwindale and Azusa and the realignment of the freight track between the San Gabriel River in Irwindale and the Azusa/Glendora border is on schedule to be completed by the end of the year, Balian said.

Work on two dozen structures related to the project is progressing, including the new Santa Ana Bridge abutments nearing completion on both sides of the street.  Also planned is a third pier to be built soon in the center island and then the installation of girders.

“The new abutments are uniquely designed to fit within the community, matching the art-deco style that exists along the corridor in the city of Arcadia,” Balian wrote.
