Foundational Builders Corp Hosts Monrovia Cub Scout Pack 66

Foundational Builders Corp Hosts Monrovia Cub Scout Pack 66 "Build It" Adventure at Hoover Construction Site

Early Sunday morning on November 14th, 2021 Foundational Builders Corp (FBC) hosted Monrovia Cub Scout Pack, Monrovia Troop 66 and Elan Griffin from Troop 141 at their Hoover construction site in Los Angeles, this is the future site of a new 39 unit complex. Foundational Builders was proud to host a special “Build It” adventure for the Webelos and Arrow of Light Den which consisted of 12 Cub Scouts. Along with the Cub Scouts Monrovia Troop 66 Scouts were given the opportunity to be of service and help the Cub Scouts with this build. Thanks to AOL Den Leader Reddy Sanchez for reaching out to Senior Project Manager Diana Vierra to coordinate this event. The Cub Scouts were charged with making a wooden toolbox from a kit from Home Depot. Being afforded to have this experience at a real construction site gave them an insight into a world not many get to witness. Owner and President of Foundational Builders Andrew Robles gave opening remarks with a motivational speech to give insight into not giving up and following your dreams just as he did, making Foundation Builders the fastest growing construction company in Los Angeles today.

To kick off the adventure Senior Project Manager Diana Vierra of FBC gave a safety briefing, they were given background information on the different types of careers available as related to the new construction site. Everything from site superintendent to architect to civil engineer was discussed. They discussed how math and science are related to construction projects, as well as how everything from equipment and people played an integral role in the building of this new apartment complex. Before the Scouts made their way up to the construction levels, they were given a treat with a ride in a hydraulic boom lift - equipment used in day-to-day construction operations that most kids don't get to see up-close and personal; by Superintendent Jose Ruiz, this presented a great photo opportunity for the parents.

Once the Scouts were set up on the main level of the site, the “Build It” adventure got underway. Diana Vierra with the help of Jose Ruiz and Construction Worker John Brown started to show Scouts about the tools that are used in construction and about all the different personal safety equipment that is used to ensure all workers are safe. The Scouts all jumped when Diana Vierra took a hammer to John Brown’s boot and hit it, “This is why we wear steel toed boots on a construction site.”

One point of Andrew Robles speech was about “getting dirty”, he is a man of his word and found the opportunity to jump in and help a struggling Cub Scout build his toolbox. Andrew stated "The event I saw was a great event for the kids, the parents, FB Corp and myself. Typically, the Diana I see is using the art of finesse to have the Subcontractors, Vendors, Owners and Employees work together to achieve our goals. Today I got to see her teach and mentor our next generation. The greatest joy I saw on Sunday was seeing the kids go from frustration to accomplishment when building the toolboxes. I saw a few kids get frustrated, probably thought they couldn’t do it, but they were put into an environment where 'Giving Up was not an option'. They, then, willed through the toolbox exercise and were proud to show off their toolboxes. That’s what the Monrovia Troops 66 is all about and that is what FB Corp is all about."

1st Class Scout James Rangel Vierra came forward to demonstrate all the safety gear that is worn, such as a safety vest, hard hat, gloves, and goggles. James has been on construction sites with his mother since he was a baby and has a deep understanding of “Safety First”. John Brown came forward to show the Scouts what tools are commonly used and carried by a worker at a jobsite.

“This was an important event because it allowed FBC to interact with a group of young people to expose them to various aspects of the construction profession," said Diana Vierra, "We had great participation from FBC employees and Troop 66 Scouts to make this event a success. Our intent was for it to be a fun but educational experience for the children, and I think we achieved that. The WEBELOS and AOL Den were very engaged and received hands-on instruction culminating them into building a small project. Hopefully it was a memorable day for them. You never know, we may have sparked the interest of a future architect, engineer, project manager, or master carpenters!"

Foundational Builders Corp prides itself in Community outreach events like this as it affords FBC the opportunity to personally interact with the people we are building for and to create a window into construction for our future generation.

Scoutmaster Mark Peters from Monrovia Troop 66 stated “Experiences like this, is what scouting is all about. When you have companies such as Foundational Builders giving back to the community with the help of FBC President Andrew Robles, Sr. Project Manager Diana Vierra, Superintendent & US Army Veteran Jose Ruiz, and Construction Worker John Brown; these are the true heroes of our community.”
