Sometimes the holidays can bring up issues of unresolved grief or heartache. As a result, you may find yourself feeling anxious about the upcoming months - even dreading the arrival of the holidays. The good news is that you don't have to be miserable. Taking a few action steps can shift you into a more positive state of mind. But no one can do it for you. You have to taken action for yourself. So here are five tips to help you navigate through the holidays with less stress.
1. Don't judge your feelings.
Honor your feelings, be present with them, they are neither right or wrong, they are just how you are feeling.
2. Be gentle with yourself.
There is no timetable for grief - it takes as long as it takes. Have compassion for yourself.
3. Ask for assistance.
You don't have to go through it alone. Asking for assistance is not a sign of weakness.
4. Honor yourself and what feels right for you.
Be open to creating new traditions that serve you where you are today.
5. Share openly and honestly about how you feel.
Don't expect others to read your mind. If you are asked how you feel, be truthful.
