Highway 39 to Reopen Sunday Following Cabin Fire
Part of the Angeles National Forest will remain closed to protect visitors and natural resources.
Forestry officials announced today that a portion of state Highway 39 will reopen Sunday morning, but an area of the Angeles National Forest charred by last week’s Cabin Fire will remain closed.
Managers for the Angeles National Forest/San Gabriel Mountains National Monument said they’ve ordered that the burn area remain closed to protect natural resources and provide for public safety.
The Cabin Fire broke out on Aug. 14 north of Glendora and burned over 1,700 acres. It took several days and hundreds of firefighters to contain, and officials said suppression and restoration work is still being conducted in the area.

The closed portion of Highway 39 will reopen at 6 a.m. Sunday. Officials said visitors can resume recreation activity below and above the fire area, but no stopping or parking is permitted within the closed portion.
The closure area begins at mile marker 28.35 on State Route 39 and extends 2,500 feet on either side of the centerline up to mile marker 30.80.
