Human Remains Found in Angeles National Forest Above Monrovia
The remains were discovered some time Wednesday morning in the area of Mile Marker 41.69 on Angeles Crest Highway

MONROVIA, CA — Skeletal human remains, possibly those of a person missing since 2014, were found Wednesday near a crashed SUV about 500 feet over the side of Angeles Crest Highway near Mt. Wilson.
Caltrans personnel on Tuesday noticed skid marks on the highway and when deputies from the sheriff's Crescenta Valley Station responded they located the SUV, officials said.
"Montrose Search and Rescue personnel rappelled down the side of the mountain, and inspected the vehicle, which appeared to have been abandoned for some time," according to Deputy Kimberly Alexander of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

"Deputies checked the vehicle identification number and learned the vehicle was connected to a 2014 missing person investigation being conducted by the Los Angeles Police Department."
Search and rescue personnel resumed the search of the area about 8 a.m. and found skeletal remains near the vehicle, she said.

"The identity of the victim remains unknown and the cause of death will be determined following an autopsy," Alexander said.
The skid marks discovered on the highway turned out to be from a recent crash and unrelated to the SUV, according to the deputy.
