Maryknoll Sisters Celebrate 100 Years

The City Council recognized the local convent for 100 years of service to the community ahead of it's centennial "jubilee" on Sunday.

The City Council recognized the Maryknoll Sisters of St. Dominic, a Catholic religious missionary congregation, for 100 years of service to the community in a ceremony this week.

The convent was founded in 1912 by Mollie Rogers, a Smith College graduate. Mayor Mary Ann Lutz called the centennial a "milestone" during this week's regular city council meeting.

"Since their founding, hundreds of sisters have lived in all different parts of the world but they call Monrovia home," Lutz said. "We are here to celebrate them here today."
