Dear Monrovia Unified Community,There were questions based upon the communication that was sent out yesterday, March 30, regarding social gatherings and social distancing. There is much information provided globally from World Health Organization, nationally from the Center for Disease Control, and more locally from Los Angeles County. As we belong to the Los Angeles community, we believe that the most prudent step is to comply with local recommendations.

Therefore, in keeping with the guidelines from The Los Angeles County “Safer at Home” order, we are resending this message.The health and safety of our students, teachers, staff, and community is our District’s priority. With the growing concerns regarding COVID-19, we made the decision to close all school fields and sites for play beginning March 30, until further notice.This decision is designed to slow the spread of the virus and ensure the District is doing its part to support the “Safer at Home” order. Please remember to follow the guidelines outlined by public health officials:

• Practice social distancing; stay 6 feet from other individuals.
• UPDATED: Do not gather in groups. Though gatherings of less than 10 people were permitted under the original “Safer at Home” order, the updated order prohibits social gatherings of any kind.
• Do not allow visitors over or let your children have playdates.
• Unless you need services, avoid health care settings.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
• Spend time outdoors – you can walk or bike if you stay 6 feet from others.
• Exercise at home or the outdoors while social distancing.

It is important to remember that social distancing does not mean isolation. Public health officials encourage people to avoid isolation by using technology and the phone to communicate with family and friends. We are one community.
