This weekend (2/1/2014) two MHS robotics teams traveled to Las Vegas where they competed against top teams from across North America and excelled. And, two MHS robotics teams stayed in the LA Region where they had season best performances.
At the Las Vegas Regional Championship the Suit Bots and the Kings & Queens competed against top teams from across North America and showed that they belonged with the elite. The Suit Bots were nominated for the Control Award, the Motivate Award, the PTC Design Award and won the Think Award. The Kings & Queens were nominated for the Control Award, the Motivate Award, won the PTC Design Award, won the 3rd place Inspire Award, and were in the Finalist Alliance (1st picked). This placed both MHS teams among the top 6 teams in the 36 team championship tournament. They just missed out on being one of the 3 teams advancing to the Western Super Regional. So Close! Great Job in Vegas!
Back in the LA region, RED and Thavma competed in the High Desert Qualifying Tournament in Lancaster. Again, the MHS teams performed exceptionally well. RED was even better in Lancaster then they were in Glendale, and Thavma showed that they are no longer a rookie team. Going into the alliance selections RED and Thavma were ranked 6th and 12th respectively. During alliance selections RED and Thavma were chosen as the 1st and 2nd pick respectively of the second ranked alliance. Being chosen to compete in the elimination rounds for the first time was a milestone for Thavma our rookie team. The semifinals saw RED's and Thavma's finest performances of the season where they lost a very close match to the eventual tournament champions. So close! Great job in Lancaster!
Next up is a LA Qualifying tournament in Victorville (2/8/2014), the San Diego Regional Championships (2/15/2014) and the LA Regional Championships (2/22/2014). The LA Regional will be held in the Event Center at Monrovia High.
The MHS Robotics Program is made up 32 students split up into 4 teams: RED, Suit Bots, Kings & Queens and Thavma. Each team has its own name and identity and builds, designs and competes its own robot in the First Tech Challenge .
