Monrovia Police Department Investigates Multiple Incidents Involving Gun Violence

On Nov. 6, at 7:20 p.m., several calls were received by the Monrovia Police Department (MPD) reporting shots fired at Recreation Park, near Shamrock Avenue and Olive Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they found one victim with gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is recovering. This investigation is ongoing, but MPD has announced that this incident is gang-related.
On Nov. 29, at 1:29 a.m., a resident in the 400 block of East Maple reported shots heard in the area. When officers responded, they located a victim who sustained two gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Evidence from this shooting was recovered at the scene and detectives continues to conduct the investigation.

On the evening of Dec. 5, two incidents occurred. At approximately 9:47 p.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Duarte Road regarding a “shots heard” call in the area. Upon arrival, officers found shell casings. While investigating this incident, officers received another “shots heard” call for the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. When officers responded to this call, they found two male adults who sustained gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment, and both are recovering with non-life threatening injuries. At this time, both investigations are ongoing.
In speaking with City counterparts in the region, there is an increasing trend in violence and many estimate the trends follow eight months of a global pandemic, increased financial instability, and/or increased unemployment. As the City of Monrovia continues handling calls for service, there is a realization that many people are struggling through these tough times.
Through these challenging times, the City of Monrovia remains committed to providing excellent service when it comes to emergency response to crimes, natural disasters, medical calls, or many other needs of the community.
