Monrovia Resident Competes for Cover Girl Title

Joecelyn Mendez, a Freshman honor student at Monrovia High, is competing against girls from Bakersfield and Ontario for the title of Quinceanera.com's Bakersfield Cover Girl.

Joecelyn Mendez, a 15-year-old who attends , is vying for the title of Cover Girl for Quinceanera.com this week.  Mendez competed last Saturday at the Pacific View Mall in Ventura and secured a spot as one of the top three candidates in the competition after modeling and being interviewed in front of a panel of judges.

“I’ve always wanted to be a model.  I was planning for my quinceanera and I came across the link.  I signed up for March’s Cover Girl, didn’t make it; signed up for April’s to see what would happen and with April, I made it,” Mendez recalled.

“With my family’s support, it motivated me to enter in the competition,” Mendez said.

Besides representing the town where she was born and raised, Mendez is also active in the Monrovia community.  She played on the undefeated Freshman/Sophomore Monrovia High volleyball team.  Currently, she is involved in track, attends the Youth Group at , and tutors her sixth grade cousin three times a week.

“Since I’ve grown up in Monrovia, I thought I’d help out and do what I can do,” Mendez explains.

“This is my city and I want to make an impact too,” she continued.

 

The public will get the chance to vote and ultimately determine who the winner of the Cover Girl contest will be.  The winner will be announced on March 20th in the Quinceanera.com newsletter, she will appear on the website, and will also be crowned during Quinceanera.com's Expo and Fashion Show.
