Old Town Bistro

Crepes, breakfasts, sandwiches, and salads are some of the featured items at Old Town Bistro.

Overview:  Old Town Bistro is a family run restaurant which opened about two months ago on Myrtle Avenue. This bistro features “French Italian comfort food,” and serves both sweet and savory crepes, sandwiches, salads, and breakfast items.

Décor: The interior has tile floors, ceiling fans, warm colors, and a mural depicting three chefs.  There is an open kitchen and a glass case with drinks and pastries. Outdoor seating consists of a covered brick patio decorated with charming bicycle planters, and sidewalk seating in front of the restaurant.

Drinks: Soft drinks, bottled water, and Italian sodas range from $1.75-$2.75. Their espresso bar serves drinks in the range of $0.95 - $3.45, including shots and coffee drinks such as caramel macchiatos and lattes.

Sandwiches and Paninis: Some of their most popular items include the Hot Roast Beef and Blue Cheese Sandwich with red onions and spinach on a French roll; Cold Chicken Salad on Wheat with apples and pecans; and The Chicken Roma Panini with pesto, bell peppers, onions, black olives, capers, basil and mozzarella cheese; and they also feature a Monte Cristo sandwich.

Sandwiches and Paninis range from $5.95 to $10.95.  Sandwiches include Creamy Egg Salad on Wheat; BLT with Avocado; Turkey and Swiss; Seafood Medley on Sourdough; Chicken Marinara; Sausage Hot Sandwich; Meatball; BBQ Pork; and Pastrami and Swiss; and Paninis include Chicken & Pesto; Tuna & Swiss; Roast Beef & Cheddar; Croque Monsieur with Ham, Swiss, and Mustard Bechamel; Croque Madame with Ham, Swiss, Mustard Bechamel, and an Egg on Sourdough; and Cheddar, Harvarti, & Provolone, among others. 

Salads: The Classic Cobb ($7.95) with Chicken, Bacon, Blue Cheese, Egg, Tomatoes, Olives, Avocado, and Blue Cheese is very popular. Salads range from $5.75-$10.95 and include Caesar with Chicken or Shrimp; The Udine with Italian Salami, Provolone, Ham, Peperoncini, Sun-Tomatoes, and Romaine; The Granada with Spinach, Feta, Cranberries, and Candied Walnuts; The Valencia with Mixed Greens, Oranges, Avocados, and Almonds; and The Athens with Tomato, Red Onions, Feta Cheese, Olives, and Romaine.

Crepes: Old Town Bistro’s crepes range from $8.95-$12.95 and include both sweet and savory varieties. A favorite savory crepe is the Chicken Divan with mushrooms and sherry sauce. Other savory crepes include Smoked Salmon; Chorizo and Potatoes; Seafood Salad; Croque Monsieur; Lasagna with House Marinara, Mozzarella, & Basil; and a Veggie Crepe with Vodka Sauce.

Funky Monkey with Nutella, Banana, Marshmallows, Candied Walnuts, Caramel Drizzle, and Whipped Cream is a very popular sweet crepe. Other sweet crepes include Romeo & Juliet with Nutella, Banana, and White Chocolate Drizzle; Berry Good with Sweet Cream Filling and Seasonal Berries; Mish Mash with Apricot Almond Marmalade & Sweet Cream; and the “Mom” Crepe with Cinnamon Apple Filling, served a la mode. 

Breakfast:  Breakfast Plates range from $9.95-$10.95 and include the ever popular Eggs Benedict; Eggs with Bacon, Ham, or Sausage; Breakfast Croissant; and a Breakfast Crepe.  They also offer pancakes, waffles, French toast ($3-$6.99); and a wide selection of omelettes ($8.95-$10.95), and you may customize your own omelette.

Customers Say: Jodi Mataus of Monrovia said that she had enjoyed her turkey sandwich and complimented the food, service, and atmosphere of Old Town Bistro.  Andy and Corran Montgomery of Monrovia said they had tried the Chicken Caeser Salad, a BLT and a sample of pasta salad. “It was delicious,” Andy Montgomery said. Corran Montgomery praised the service and said she’d definitely go back again.
