To address the contest's theme, “Together We Can”, he decided to walk around with a digital camera and take pictures of his family eating and exploring Monrovia's street fair and Library Park.  He eventually chose to submit a photograph he took of his cousin and younger brother looking at books on the bench next to the Mark Twain statue in Library Park, to fit the theme, “Together We Can Read.”

Tyler's award-winning photograph was selected out of hundreds of entries in the Intermediate Grades 3-5 category from across the First District. With his keen insight for capturing human behavior on film, it's not surprising that Tyler's favorite subject in school is Social Studies. This was the first time Tyler had ever submitted a photograph to a contest.
