UPDATE: Roof Problems Force Evacuation at Pavilions
Suspicious noises coming from the roof led managers to evacuate the building, police said.

Update: As of 10:30 a.m., Pavilions was back open. Safeway representatives have not returned a call requesting comment.
Employees and customers at Pavilions evacuated the grocery store Thursday afternoon following reports of suspicious noises coming from the roof, police said.
The roof did not cave in and no one was injured but the Pavilions on the corner of Myrtle Avenue and Foothill Boulevard was evacuated at about 4:45 p.m. as a precaution, Monrovia Police Sgt. Pat Newton said.

"The store employees decided to evacuate," Newton said. "Police just helped escort people out and they closed the store."
Newton said she did not know where in the building the noises were coming from.

A person who answered the phone at Pavilions Thursday evening declined to elaborate on cause of the evacuation and would not provide his name. He and Newton said the store would likely be closed Friday.
"If they closed it down today I assume at least it's gong to be closed tomorrow to make sure its safe," Newton said.
