MONROVIA, CA – The City of Monrovia is looking for original poetry written by residents for the Art in Public Places' second annual Sidewalk Poetry Contest, it was announced Tuesday. The contest is open to all Monrovia residents and will end on Dec. 31. As part of the Monrovia Renewal Project, the city will stamp the winning poems into newly poured sections of sidewalk, the city said. Poems are placed randomly to create an "element of surprise" for pedestrians. "The sidewalk poems are such a pleasant surprise when taking a stroll around town," Tom Adams, committee member of Arts in Public Places, said. "It adds extra charm to an already delightful neighborhood." Some of the 2018 winning poems have already been stamped on various sidewalks.
