SUMMER TERM IN FULL SWING AT MT. SIERRA COLLEGE.

MONROVIA, CA – The Mt. Sierra College Summer Quarter officially kicked off on Monday July 8, 2013.  The student population for the Summer Quarter is a combination of new and continuing students.  The new student population includes graduates from local high schools as well as students with a few years of community college experience.  Some of the local high schools represented in the incoming class are Monrovia, Baldwin Park, Covina, Herbert Hoover, and John Boroughs high schools.  The new student population also includes working adults who are interested in growing in their current careers or have planned to make a career change based in a Mt. Sierra College degree.

Mt. Sierra College offers four starts during the academic year to facilitate timely graduation.  Students can graduate in 3 years or less depending on their number of credits transferred in from a community college and their quarter unit load.  Class schedules are flexible and available year-around to support degree completion and entry into the job market.

On June 27, 2013, the New Student Orientation welcomed the incoming class for Summer 2013.  The event was held in the Mt. Sierra College Auditorium where Kristen Stabb, College Director, and Justin Phillips, Director of Academic Advisement, presented a roadmap for new students to successfully complete their respective bachelor’s degrees.  The speakers highlighted some of the key services such as free tutoring and the “The First Year Experience” available to students through Student Services, Financial Aid, Academic Affairs and Career Services.  Mt. Sierra College students are assigned an advisor from each department throughout their degree program while Career Services continues to work with graduates to assist with employment in their respective fields of study.

In her speech Simanjuntak thanked the faculty, administrators and fellow students for making her journey to graduation not only rewarding but also challenging and unique.  She said: “Mt. Sierra College has been so much more than an educational institution for me.  It has been a place of growth.”  Simanjuntak continued: “I have been transformed so quickly into so much more of a stronger person and for that, I am forever in their debt.”

In closing Simanjuntak stated: “To my fellow graduates, we owe each other a debt of gratitude as well. We have inspired, pushed, and carried each other along this path. And I for one consider myself lucky to be counted among you today.

While Commencement marked the end of an important chapter in the lives of graduates, it also symbolized a beginning for their post-graduate journey and search for career success.
