Last weekend the Kings & Queens of Monrovia HS Robotics took their robot and their gear to the Western Super Regional Championship in Sacramento. Up against the top teams from 14 states they proved they are among the best in the West and qualified for the First Tech Challenge World Championships in St. Louis, April 23-26.
Of the 24 teams to advance to Worlds from the Western Super-Region only 8 are from California and only the Kings & Queens are from the LA Region.
Congratulations Kings & Queens!

Background
In its fourth year, Monrovia HS Robotics is made up of four teams: R.E.D, Kings & Queens, Suit Bots and Thavma. The program competes in the Greater LA Region of the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics competition. The LA Region encompasses eight Southern California counties and the state of Hawaii. In the last four years the program has grown explosively along with the LA Region. In our first year we had nine students and a single team. That year there were 22 teams in the LA Region. This year we have four teams (over 30 students) and the LA Region has almost 140 teams. Each MHS team has its own name and identity. They design, build, and compete with their own robot. Each team is lead by an adult mentor who has strong science and engineering credentials. Plus, the program is supported by a host of dedicated family, community members and sponsors who ensure the success of the program and its activities.

In addition to competing in robotics competitions the Kings & Queens and Monrovia HS Robotics gives back to the community by hosting multiple robotics events and by conducting robotics workshops at local elementary and middle schools. This year Monrovia HS was the host for the LA FTC Kick Off, the Monrovia Qualifying Tournament, and the LA FTC Regional Championship.
