Whiz Kids: Monrovia High School Wins Bronze In Drum Line Competition
After a promotion to a higher class of competitors, the drum line placed third in competition on Saturday.

Who: Monrovia High School Drum Line freshmen Naomi Martin, Marco Escobar, and Andrew Chester; sophomores Chris Roberts, Ryan Hickey, Vorice Hebert and Jenny Delgado; juniors Jose De La O, Marissa Garcia, Nickey Spencer, Bailey Eskew, Megan Foyer, Anthony Aparicio, Eric Gauderman, and Mark Gauderman; and seniors Rick Montory, Marcus Stone, Jessica Williams, Alisha Cancino, and Ian Thorn, Drum Captain.
Accomplishment: The Monrovia Drum Line won 3rd place in the Scholastic Open Division of the American Drum Line Association.
Key To Awesomeness: After being promoted up from the Scholastic A Division in February 2011, the Drum Line placed 3rd in the Scholastic Open Division of the American Drum Line Association in a competition which was held at Mission Hills High School in San Marcos, California on Saturday, April 30th. Out of 125 competing scholastic drum lines, only the top 16 are in the Open and World classes. Monrovia High School’s Drum Line was one of 12 drum lines competing in the Open Division. Their show, which addressed themes of positive change in the world, was written by Jered Sherrill, Assistant Band Director and Director of Percussion.

The Monrovia High School Drum Line consists of Snare drummers Ian Thorn (Drum Captain), Rick Montory, and Chris Roberts; Tenor drummers Jose De La O and Ryan Hickey; Bass drummers Marissa Garcia, Naomi Martin, Marco Escobar, and Andrew Chester; and Front Ensemble members Nickey Spencer, Bailey Eskew, Megan Foyer, Vorice Hebert, Marcus Stone, Jessica Williams, Alisha Cancino, Anthony Aparicio, Jenny Delgado, Eric Gauderman, and Mark Gauderman. The students accomplished their win under the leadership of Band Director Daniel Magallanes, Assistant Director and Director of Percussion Jered Sherrill, and additional drum coaches Eric Shriver, Scott Tanaka and Chris Boatman.
