Whiz Kids: Students Chronicle History Through Photography

Three local students were awarded prizes for their photographs of historic Monrovia.

Who:  students Allison Smith, Hayden Dawkins, and Steven Klimasewski.

Accomplishment:  Allison Smith(1st), Hayden Dawkins(2nd), and Steven Klimasewski (3rd) were the top three winners of the “Making History In Our Community” photography contest sponsored by the .

Key to Awesomeness:  Allison Smith, Hayden Dawkins, and Steven Klimasewski were announced as the top three winners of the “Making History In Our Community” photography contest on April 17.  The three have also studied photography under Ann Battle, Monrovia High School’s photography teacher. This year, eight students participated in the contest and submitted photographs adhering to any of five points of criteria:

1)      Houses, city buildings, schools important to Monrovia

2)      Buildings, businesses of Old Town Monrovia

3)      People of Monrovia who are noteworthy

4)      Objects, subjects you feel are memorable to visitors

5)      Older or long-time residents. 

Some of the subjects of the winning photos included the and the . The winners had their photographs displayed with their prize ribbons at the Monrovia Historical Museum, and were also awarded with scholarship checks toward their continuing education.
