Overview:  serves both traditional and contemporary Thai cuisine. Their dishes can range from hot and fiery to milder dishes with subtle blends of sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and spicy. If you’re in the mood to enjoy delicious Thai food in Old Town Monrovia, head to Chang Thai Bistro.

Décor:  The interior is burgundy and gold, and paintings and statues of elephants and large mirrors adorn the walls. Bamboo screens the front door and hangs in chandelier-like clusters over the restaurant. Outdoor seating is available on the sidewalk or at the umbrella-topped tables on the back patio.

Drinks: Refreshments include Thai Iced Tea, Thai Iced Coffee, Thai Iced Green Tea, Fresh Squeezed Lemonade, and Fresh Young Coconut. A selection of beer from Thailand, Japan, China, Holland, England, Mexico and the United States ranges from $3.95-$7.95. Appetizers:  Appetizers range from $5.95-$8.95, with favorites that include Satay (skewered chicken, beef, or tofu marinated in coconut milk blended in yellow curry), Crispy Avocado Rolls, Crispy Spring Rolls, Golden Triangle (crabmeat and shrimp in a wonton skin, served with sweet and sour sauce, crushed peanuts, and homemade salad), Crab Rangoon, and Curry Dumplings. Other offerings include Shrimp or Vegetable Tempura, Tofu Crisp, Mee Krob (sweet crispy noodles with shrimp and chicken), Larb (beef, chicken, or tofu cooked with a spicy lime dressing), Fresh Salad Wrap, and Soft-Shell Crab.

Basil and Chili, Shrimp and Scallops, Prik King (stir-fried green beans in chili paste), and Kang Ka Ree (chicken curry) are some favorites. They also offer Green Curry, Red Curry, Ginger, Veggie Lovers, Broccoli, Baby Corn and Snow Peas, Pepper Garlic, Cashew Nuts, and Sweet Sassy Sole, with a fillet of sole in basil leaves and chili sauce. BBQ Lunch Specials ($7.95-$9.95) come with fried rice, green salad, and eggroll, and include Satay (chicken, beef or tofu marinated in coconut milk yellow curry on a skewer), Thai BBQ Chicken, Tofu Steak, Teriyaki Chicken, and Grilled Salmon.

Noodle Soups ($6.95-$9.95) include Tom Kha Noodle, with lemongrass coconut cream soup and chicken; Tom Yum Noodle, with lemongrass, hot and sour broth, chicken and shrimp; Tom Kha Seafood; Seafood Noodle; Won Ton Egg Noodle; Kao Soi, with egg noodles in a yellow curry soup; and Beef or Chicken Noodle.

Entrees:  Dishes from the Wok and Grill range from $7.95-$13.95, with Wok favorites that include Heavenly Pepper Garlic, Basil and Chili, and Dried Chili and Cashew Nut with a choice of chicken, beef, pork, tofu, shrimp, fish fillet, squid, or vegan shrimp. Other offerings include Sweet and Sour, Duck with Basil and Chili, and Sizzling Mongolian Beef. Popular dishes from the Grill include Thai BBQ Chicken, Sizzling Thai BBQ Beef, and the Thai Trio with green papaya salad, BBQ Chicken, and sticky rice. They also offer Thai BBQ Pork, Sizzling Prawns, Mushroom Tamarind Chicken, Tofu Steak, Grilled Salmon, and Vegan Surf & Turf with vegan shrimp and tofu steak.

Seafood ($9.95-$14.95) includes the ever-popular Sizzling Krata Talay, with sautéed shrimp, scallops, crab claws, mussels, fish, squid, mushrooms, onions, broccoli, basil leaves, carrots, and fresh chili sauce; and Shrimp & Scallops in Curry Sauce, with onions, scallions, mushrooms and snow peas; are among their most popular dishes. The Seafood Medley comes with a combination of grilled marinated shrimp, scallops, salmon, squid, and mussels in a house special sauce and spicy lime dressing. Pad Talay comes with shrimp, scallops, crab claws, mussels, fish, and quid stir fry in a red curry sauce with peppers, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, eggplant, zucchini, and basil leaves. They also offer Sweet Sassy Sole, Catfish, Crispy Basil Soft-Shell Crab, and Crispy Basil Shrimp.

Favorite Curries ($7.95-$9.95) include Panang (mild red curry with coconut cream and basil leaves), Kang Ka Ree (yellow curry), Green Curry, and Red Curry (hot and spicy, with bamboo shoots, zucchini, eggplant, and green peppers. They also offer Pineapple Shrimp Curry, Duck Curry, Veggie Curry, and Mussamun, a coconut cream beef stew.

Vegetable dishes ($7.95-$8.95) include Pad Prik King, with green beans and chili paste; Spicy Eggplant with chili, basil, peppers, and onions; Baby Corn & Snow Peas with mushrooms and onions; Broccoli & Oyster Sauce; Chinese Broccoli; PET (Pumpkin, Eggplant, and Tofu), with fresh chili, garlic, basil, chili paste, peppers, and onions; and Mixed Vegetables.

Noodles and Rice:  Favorite dishes include the ever popular Pad Thai, and Pad Kew Mow (pan-fried flat noodles with chili, garlic, bell peppers and basil on a bed of fresh greens). Other Noodle dishes ($7.95-$11.95) include Pad Thai Talay (with seafood), Rad Nad (with Chinese broccoli and gravy), Rad Nar Talay (with seafood), Pad See Ew (with Chinese broccoli, egg, and soy sauce), Pad Woon Sen (with egg, mushrooms, snow peas, onions, and tomatoes), Chicken Noodle, Seafood Spicy Noodle, and Chow Mein.

Soups and Salads:  Soups range from $3.50-$5.50 for a small bowl to $7.95-$10.95 for a large bowl. Some favorites include Tom Kah Gai, with chicken, coconut milk soup, mushrooms, carrots, galangal root, lemongrass, and kaffir lime leaves; Tom Yum Gai, with chicken, spicy and sour lemongrass broth, mushrooms, carrots, galangal root, and kaffir lime leaves; and Wonton Soup. They also offer Tom Yum King, "the Thai’s favorite soup" with shrimp and hot and sour lemongrass broth. Other soups include Gulf of Siam with King crab legs, shrimp, scallops, fish, mussels, squid, and hot and sour lemongrass broth; Silver Noodle Soup with shrimp, chicken and veggies; Spinach Wonton Soup; Tofu Soup; and Vegetable Soup.
