Woman Choked, Others Assaulted In Random Attack At Simi Valley Target

The suspect is accused of attempted murder and other felony charges.

SIMI VALLEY, CA — A 34-year-old Simi Valley man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and other felony charges after a violent attack inside a Target store Wednesday evening that left several people injured, according to police.

Officers were dispatched around 6 p.m. June 17 to the Target at 51 Tierra Rejada Road after receiving reports that a man entered the store and immediately began choking a woman standing at a checkout counter, the Simi Valley Police Department said.

Authorities identified the suspect as Rejean Tabor, 34, of Simi Valley.

According to police, a Target loss prevention officer and several shoppers stepped in to help the woman. Tabor then allegedly turned his attention to those attempting to intervene, assaulting multiple people, including a juvenile.

As the confrontation unfolded, Target employees began evacuating the store while officers responded to the scene.

Police said officers entered the store and located Tabor in the grocery section, where he was throwing merchandise. He was taken into custody without incident.

Several customers, including the juvenile, suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene before being released, police said.

The woman who was initially attacked was transported by family members to a local hospital. She remained in stable condition as of Thursday, according to authorities.

Investigators later determined the victim did not know Tabor and there was no apparent prior relationship between the two.

Tabor was booked into the Ventura County Main Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, burglary, assault, battery and cruelty or unjustifiable pain to a minor, police said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
