SOMIS, CA — Drivers traveling along Highway 118 in Ventura County can expect overnight traffic delays this week as Caltrans crews work on a $30.8 million slope repair project.
Alternating one-way traffic controls will be in place on State Route 118, also known as Los Angeles Avenue, between Sand Canyon Road and Balcom Canyon Road near Somis, according to Caltrans.
The restrictions are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Wednesday.
Crews may also work during the day from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. behind concrete barriers along the highway's south shoulder. No daytime lane closures are planned.
Caltrans warned that nearby residents and businesses may experience noise, vibrations and dust from demolition work.
The speed limit through the construction zone is 40 mph, and drivers are urged to use alternate routes when possible.
The work is part of the State Route 118 Slope Repair Project, which includes construction of two retaining walls along the south side of the highway and other improvements.
The $30.8 million project is expected to be completed in winter 2026-27. CA Rasmussen Inc. is the contractor.
Caltrans said the traffic restrictions could change depending on weather, material availability or other factors.
