Blanket Drive supports local families and Pine Ridge, South Dakota

Redbird, a Native American and environmental non profit association founded in 1990 in Simi Valley, has held their annual blanket drive in Ventura County for many years. Most of those years, support has gone to the most challenged reservations in the United States, in and around the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota.

This year's event will take place on December 3 at the Simi Valley Library. In addition to sending blankets to the Pine Ridge, this year's event will offer some love to local indigenous people.

In coordination with Southern California American Indian Resources and the Redrum Indigenous Motorcycle Club, Redbird is supporting five local elders and/or families.

Their identities will be kept private. If you would like your donation(s) to go to a local family, here's what is suggested:

Put them in a bag with the reference written on the bag:
Gift cards or cash - put them in an envelope with the reference written on the envelope:
Checks - make checks to Redbird and write the reference on the check:
Monetary donations through the website - add a note to your donation (if you can't add a note, which sometimes happens with the donation link, just send us an email to redbirds_vision@hotmail.com and we will make sure the money goes where it should.

Everyone is welcome to the gathering on December 3. Donations are not a requirement for attendance.

Monetary donations as well as blankets are sought. Shipping the blankets gets more expensive every year, and the funds to ship them come from donations either made online or received at the blanket drive.
