City Could Settle Question of Filling Council Vacanies Wednesday

The City Council will also consider library board applicants.

After dealing with the issue for more than a month, the City Council could resolve the issue of how to fill council and mayoral seats that are vacated mid term.

The ordinance the council will vote on requires that a special election be called immediately to fill every council and mayoral vacancy. The election wouldn't take place until the next established election date unless that date is less than 114 days from the call for the special election. In that case, it would take place on the following election date.

This will be the second vote for the ordinance. The council approved the ordinance at it's last meeting; however, such changes require two council votes. The council first addressed the issue at its December meeting.
