City to Consider Redevelopment Agency Lawsuit Contribution

Moorpark has been asked to contribute more money for a possible lawsuit against California.

The Moorpark City Council and Redevelopment Agency will meet Wednesday evening to discuss and consider topics as wide ranging as naming library board members to whether it should help finance a lawsuit against the state of California.

The California Redevelopment Association and the League of California Cities has asked state redevelopment agencies to contribute money to help fight the State from using redevelopment agency funds to help balance its budget. The CRA and LCC asked for $400 from Moorpark, based on a tax-related formula. This would be the second $400 contribution from the City, which paid the first contribution to a legal defense fund in March. The City’s staff is recommending the Council not only contribute the requested $400, but authorize additional money—for a total not to exceed $1,500—for the cause. The money, according to the staff's published agenda report, could come from the City’s existing budget appropriation for legal services.

As well, the Ventura County Housing Trust Fund has requested $150,000 (to be paid over the next five years) from the City to help participate in a grant-matching opportunity that City staff believes could help Moorpark meet its Housing Element affordable housing goals.
