It’s time to grab those golf clubs and join the Boys &
Girls Club of Moorpark for its 26th annual Golf Tournament on Monday, September 24 at the beautiful Moorpark Country Club.
The tournament is one of the highlights of the year and provides an opportunity to enjoy a great day of golf while supporting Moorpark’s kids. Proceeds from the tournament help the Club offer enriching programs at a very low cost – just $20 a year per child. Every golfer, sponsor and participant makes a difference in the lives of kids like Valerie, a second grader who came to the Club having trouble doing her homework independently; she also struggled with math and independent reading. Club staff did more than just help Valerie with her homework; after meeting with Valerie’s teacher and parents, a comprehensive tutoring plan was put in place to help Valerie develop math and reading skills. Each day after homework an instructor spent at least an hour with Valerie – reading with her, playing math games and building vocabulary skills. Over time Valerie improved tremendously, to the point that toward the end of the school year she was primarily working independently and achieving at the same level as most of her classmates. The Club is more than a safe place to go after school; it promotes the academic success, good character & citizenship and healthy lifestyles of every child that comes through the door.
In addition to helping Valerie and many other great kids, the tournament provides a fun day of golf. There will also be a spectacular opportunity drawing: a stay-and-play package for two at the acclaimed Pebble Beach Resort. One lucky golfer will have the chance to walk in the footsteps of golfing legends and play one of the most exciting closing holes in golf!
