As part of California Lutheran University's Center for Equality and Justice lecture series, Dr. Jose M. ALamillo will discuss the Bracero Program, which, instituted in 1942, brought Mexican farm laborers to the United States. Of the 5 million braceros imported to the United States, at least 20 percent were contracted to work in Ventura County and about 20 bracero camps were located throughout the county.
Alamillo is an associate professor at California State University Channel Islands and coordinator of the Chicano/a Studies Program. His research focuses on labor, immigration, race, gender and sports.
