'The Sorcerer'

The Ventura County Gilbert & Sullivan Repertoire Company's production of the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, The Sorcerer, opens continues through Oct. 17 at the Theatre on the Hill, Hillcrest Center for the Arts.

Gilbert starts off the G&S operetta canon with a farce about class distinction and love. Throw in a sorcerer with a love potion and you have the first of the "magic lozenge" plots so familiar in the topsy turvey world of Gilbert and Sullivan. Incantations and spirits address the hall as Gary Saxer, the sorcerer, imbues a love potion with the power to bring love at first sight across the classes to the little Victorian town of Ploverleigh.
