Fire Department Extinguishes Flames Near Arroyo Vista Park

The fire burned through two structures and touched a third Monday.

A fire, which was reported to the Ventura County Fire Department at 4:11 p.m. Monday, burned two structures and touched on a third before firefighters extinguished the flames an hour later.

According to a representative of the department, the cause of the fire was not yet known and the department didn't know if the buildings, which stood between the Arroyo Simi and the Moorpark High School football stadium, were park maintenance buildings, plant nursery buildings or something else. The department did report there were no injuries.

According to the VCFD fireline website, 16 units reported to fight the fire.

Moorpark High School football players, who were on the field during the fire, said their practice was not disrupted, but they did see a lot of black smoke coming from the area of the fire. Moorpark residents Michael Spencer and Diane Hammersley said they saw the smoke from the Target parking lot at the Moorpark Marketplace and came over to make sure the fire wasn't in their neighborhood nearby.
