Meet An “Amazing” Authentic Mexican Cooking Expert

Diana Kennedy, at 96, is the top authority on authentic Mexican cooking.

Diana Kennedy, at 96, is finally relinquishing her personal archive of 600+ cookbooks, 1,000+ papers and letters to the Special Collections Vault at the John Peace Library, University of Texas, San Antonio campus. Why is this worth noting? Diana is the top authority on authentic Mexican cooking. She's traveled the length and breadth of Mexico for over her 50+ years of researching Mexican cuisine, writing what became the definitive Mexican cookbooks, teaching, testing recipes and identifying edible native plants. If it has to do with Mexican cooking, she’s done it, tasted it, cooked it.

Diana’s mastery of the art is such that she was awarded the Order of the Aztec Eagle, and inducted into the James Beard Foundation’s Cookbook Hall of Fame, plus she’s the star of the new 2019 documentary “Nothing Fancy: Diana Kennedy.”Not bad for a 96 years young British ex-pat!
