Meet An “Amazing” Who Competes For The Love Of The Sport

Jon Adamson, at 80, took up running marathons at 45 and hasn't looked back.

Jon Adamson, at 80, took first place in the 2018 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final Gold Coast male AG sprint, with a time of 01:42:11, in the 80 – 84 years age category. Just in case you wondered, yes, there is an 85-89 years age category. I totally expect there will be a 90+ age category soon.

These triathletes have no intention of stopping. Certainly, Jon doesn’t. Considering that means almost 2 hours of intense running, cycling and swimming while competing, the conditioning and training are intense. Yet Jon led an admittedly sedentary life until he was about 45, when he took up running—actually marathoning. And his story goes on from there. All it takes is showing up, discipline and patience. A positive always attitude helps, and Jon certainly has that.
