Leon Fleishe, 90, celebrated his birthday with a concert tour, playing a Mozart concerto with the Delaware Symphony Orchestra. A true virtuoso, he began playing piano at 4 years old. Leon is an Amazing not only because of his long and stellar career, but also by what he overcame to continue it.
At 36, Leon suffered a mysterious ailment that caused seizures in his right hand--for a concert pianist, a horrendous condition. But after a few years away from the piano, he realized he was first and foremost a musician and could do more than perform such as teach and conduct. Along the way, he found many pieces for left-handed solos--and back to performing he went. Later on, treatments were discovered that improved his condition such that--with care and attention--he once more graces the symphony stage playing his beloved Mozart.
