Charlie Grass, at 91, is enjoying a recap of his dynamic career with the legendary Bob Fosse due to the advent of the Netflix show “Fosse-Verdon.” Charlie was Bob’s original dance partner. The two met in dance school at age 7 and were paired as “The Riff Brothers.” From age 12 to 17, they tap-danced their way through night clubs, on stage at Ganz Hall, and USO performances at Great Lakes Naval Base. Bob left for Broadway and Charlie continued his dance career as ballet dancer, choreographer and teacher.

Imagine his surprise when, having retired from dance professionally at 40 (and becoming a pipefitter like his dad), he got the call from the Chicago Dance History Project to help recreate some of the Riff Brothers’ famous tap routines. No problem. Charlie remembers them all as if it were yesterday, and with his help, the first public performance of their routine will debut in this year at the Berger Park Coach House Theater in Chicago. The Riff Brothers live on.
