It took Vasil Kurtev, at 80, 652 days to finish his solo sail around the world.
Vasil Kurtev, at 80, completed his 25,000 mile solo journey sailing around the globe in his boat. Remember the movie “Around the World in Eighty Days”? Well, Vasil circumnavigated the world in 652 days, but he did keep the 80 in there, as he turned 80 during his trip. A retired dentist, Vasil is a seasoned sailor, who accomplished the trans-Atlantic crossing previously several times, but given his 78 years at the start of this last adventure, wasn’t all that confident about it. Still, he not only made it, he returned to his home town of Varna healthy, in great spirits, and feeling – you guessed it – young again.
