Meet An “Amazing” Whose Brilliance Shines On Stage & Screen

Cicely Tyson, at 94, could certainly rest on her astonishing list of accomplishments on stage, screen and TV. Yet never one to stop doing what she loves, Cicely continues to garner applause and awards. In 2019, she was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress In A Drama Series in How to Get Away with Murder, for which she was also nominated in 2017 & 2018.

The quality of her work is clearly undimmed by the passing of years. Cicely was born to a carpenter/handy-man and a house-cleaner. Her success shows how you can succeed at whatever you love, regardless of your humble beginnings.

Among her most prestigious honors are the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Kennedy Center Honoree, the first African-American woman to receive an honorary Oscar, and induction into the American Theatre Hall of Fame. More to come no doubt!
