Meet A Pair Of “Amazings" And Their Creative Volunteering

Ethel Ford, at 70, and Nannette Wall, at 67, are putting their crocheting skills to good use.

Ethel Ford, at 70, and Nannette Wall, at 67, are putting their crocheting skills to good use as volunteers at the Sebastian Inlet State Park Museum in Florida. But unlike most volunteers who act as docents, for example, Ethel and Nannette use “plarn” (yarn made out of recycled plastic bags) to crochet coasters, bags, even sleeping mats, which they gift to the homeless. The bags, purses and other items are for sale in the museum’s gift shop.

Ethel and Nannette have their own dedicated space at the shop. Proceeds going directly to the park. What an innovative and creative way these ladies have found to combine their love of the State Park with a passion for volunteering.
