Moorpark High School played its final regular-season game Thursday; playoffs begin soon for the Musketeers.
Moorpark High's football team finished up its regular-season play with a 20-0 win at home against Simi Valley.
The five win, four loss record—as reported by MaxPreps—wasn't enough to make the school a shoe-in for the Marmonte playoffs; however, it was enough to bring the Musketeers into a three-way tie with Simi and Thousand Oaks for third place in the league, according to Jim Carlisle of the Ventura County Star. Following the game, there was a coin toss to determine which two schools would move on into the playoffs. Moorpark and Thousand Oaks, it determined, will be a part of post-season play, Carlisle reported.
But the post-game flip wasn't the only coin toss to stir emotions Thursday night. The pre-game coin toss was made by Specialist Justin Bogoyevac, a 24-year-old Army medic, who recently returned from Afghanistan. The coin toss followed a special reception the school had to honor veterans and active military personnel prior to the game.

This year, the Musketeers dedicated their season to teammate Austin Muñoz, a 16-year-old junior who was diagnosed with two inoperable yolk sac, mixed malignant brain cell tumors in July. Since then, with rounds of chemotherapy and his own health regimin, one of the tumors has disappeared and the other continues to shrink, according to a report earlier this week from Austin's mother, Julie Miller. And for its last game, the team had a tribute for Austin, who wore his football jersey and spent time on the sidelines with his team members. (See posted on Patch earlier this year)
