Recycling Programs for Local Elementary Schools by VCPWA

VCPWA's IWMD and Watershed Protection District have joined forces with Mr. Eco through The EcoHero Show

Song, dance and information! Mr. Eco, an earth-loving, sustainably-responsible super hero has been making the rounds to schools in Ventura County. With partial state-funding through CalRecycle’s Bottles and Cans grant, his goal is to show students how their actions impact the ecosystem and wildlife. His teaching is done through rap songs and dance, with teacher and student participation.

In February IWMD launched a recycling poster contest for all 5th grade students in public and private schools in the unincorporated area of Ventura County. Students were tasked with creating a poster to promote recycling, along with a catchy slogan. The winning poster will be mounted on a recycle truck and will be unveiled following an EcoHero assembly, April 12 at 8:45 a.m. at Sunset Elementary School in Oak View.

“Our current generation, “Gen Z,” has grown up knowing what recycling is and learning the importance of conserving our resources. Recycling has become second nature to our youth because they’ve always done it,” said Lisa McCullough, Environmental Resource Analyst for the Ventura County Public Works Agency. “We are so proud of the students at all our schools for being proactive in their recycling efforts and are excited to see the long-lasting effect this will have on their school and the community at large.”
