Scene in Moorpark: Sculptor Reaches Half-Way Mark

Now it's all in the details for John Fisher.

It's hard to believe artist John Fisher, who is sculpting Moorpark's latest piece of public art at the under construction Ruben Castro Human Services Building, reached the half-way mark Wednesday. The bulk of forming the figures in the work is done. Now comes the fun part, he said. Now he gets to work on the details.

On the day Patch caught up with Fisher, he had been working on chiseling a weave into a basket before hollowing out the area behind one of the statue's figure's legs. He'd already added laces on a child's shoe and a patch on a backpack, of which we approved, but then, we're rather impartial to patches around here . . .

Fisher welcomes visits from community members. If you'd like to see him in action, just stop on by the site (go around back and park in the parking lot). Be sure to check in at the contstruction site office, which is straight ahead as you enter through the site gates, for a hard hat and vest.
