Sen. Pavley applauds Ventura County transit investments

Moorpark and other Ventura County communities will receive an additional $1.6 million in state bond funding for projects to improve public transit and air quality, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced Wednesday.

Caltrans announced it will award nearly $250 million for 127 projects across California in the latest round of funding under Proposition 1B, which was approved by voters in 2006.

"Transportation is California's largest source of air pollution," Sen. Pavley (D-Agoura Hills) said. "Investing in public transit helps clean up our air, cut our greenhouse gas emissions and reduce congestion on the roads."

"I would like to commend Darren Kettle and the Ventura County Transportation Commission for their dedication and ongoing work to meet the county's transportation needs," Sen. Pavley said.

Proposition 1B will provide $3.6 billion to public transportation over a 10-year period, and it has already funded nearly 900 projects worth more than $2 billion statewide. The new funding announced Wednesday includes three Ventura County projects:

- Parking lot and accessibility improvements at the Simi Valley Metrolink Station ($550,000)

- Expansion and maintenance of the North Parking Lot at the Moorpark Metrolink Station ($317,000)

- Purchase of two compressed natural gas (CNG) buses for the Moorpark City Transit system ($774,000) For more information visit http://goo.gl/xzPCO.
