Simi Valley YMCA Hosts Campout/Simi Guides Signups October 7

The program is for children in kindergarten through third grade.

Simi Valley parents and their children are invited to take part in a free October 7 overnight campout at the Simi Valley Family YMCA (3200 Cochran St.). Campers will participate in games and skits, make s’mores, sing songs and learn about the YMCA’s Simi Guides program.

"In today's world, it’s easy for parents and children to get too wrapped-up into their digital devices and every-day pressure of work and school. Children and parents rarely have enough time together, to really get to know each other,” says Josh Lipking, who participates with his daughter. “Through activities such as regular meetings, campouts, craft projects, hiking and games, Simi Guides gives families genuine opportunities to collect memories together. The October 7 campout is an awesome way for kids and their parents to learn what YMCA Simi Guides is all about.”

“Tribes” are made up of 7 to 10 parent/child pairs based on age, gender and neighborhood. Parent/child combinations are father and son, father and daughter, mother and son, mother and daughter. Meetings take place either biweekly or monthly at parents' homes. The program is for children in kindergarten through third grade.
