State Sen. Fran Pavley to Run for New District Office

She will seek a seat as representative of the newly formed 27th Senate District.

State Senator Fran Pavley will seek a second term in 2012, according to a statement her campaign issued Thursday morning. Pavley plans to run as a candidate for the newly formed 27th District, which includes Moorpark.

"I would be honored to represent the people of the newly drawn Senate District 27," Pavley said in the announcement. "I have life-long ties to this district. I was raised in the San Fernando Valley and spent nearly 25 years as a middle school teacher in Moorpark. My husband and I raised our two children in Agoura Hills and I was the first mayor of the city."

The new district also includes Calabasas, Westlake Village, Malibu and Hidden Hills.

Pavley currently serves the 23rd Senate District. Prior to her election to her current office, Pavley served three terms in the California State Assembly.

"I'm confident that the issues I am focusing on in the Legislature will resonate in the new district," Pavley said. "The people in Senate District 27 care about creating jobs; improving education; clean energy innovation that grows our economy and improves air quality; sustaining our water supply; working with our local police, fire and district attorneys to keep our streets safe and protecting consumers. I look forward to running on my record of accomplishment in these areas."
