Update: Highway 118 Reopens After Accident
A two-vehicle accident had caused lanes in both directions to be closed.
Both lanes of Hwy 118 are open again after an accident at about 1:30 p.m. Friday caused traffic to stop in both directions.
The accident took place near the railroad crossing between Grimes Canyon and Balcom Canyon roads.
According to Officer Brian Green of the California Highway Patrol, a woman driving a blue Mercedes and heading west crossed over the yellow lines and hit a cement truck coming the opposite direction head on. The car came to rest on the railroad tracks and witnesses pushed the car off of them, Green said.

One of the vehicles struck and knocked over a power line pole, which caused a nearby transformer to blow and start a small brush fire, which the fire department put out quickly, Green reported.
