VCPWA’s Improvements to Santa Paula Street to Minimize Collisions

Ventura County Public Works Agency (VCPWA) Transportation Department has received approval from the Board of Supervisors for the installation of a four-way stop control at the intersection of Santa Paula Street and Briggs Road.

“It is important to minimize and prevent roadway threats and dangers to the public,” said Supervisor Kelly Long of District 3. “Our main focus is always maintaining safety in our community.”

Located in the unincorporated area just west of the city, Santa Paula Street consists of two-lanes that stretch for almost 2 miles, intersecting with Briggs Road and is not currently stop controlled. Within the past ten years there have been a total of 14 collisions in this intersection, 11 of which could have been avoided if this were a 4-way stop.

“It was at the recommendation by VCPWA with these findings and the support of Supervisor Long that the installation of a four-way stop on Santa Paula Street be approved,” said David Fleisch, VCPWA Transportation Department Director. “This multi-way stop control will improve traffic operational characteristics of the intersection and improve overall traffic safety.”
