World War II Navy Veteran to Speak on “D Day” at Conejo Valley YMCA July 20

Dr. Arnold (Arnie) Heyman will be talking about D Day at a free July 20 luncheon at the Conejo Valley YMCA.

The infamous “D Day” landing on the beaches in Normandy, France in 1944 was a turning point of World War II. Navy veteran Dr. Arnold (Arnie) Heyman will be talking about D Day and the preparations that made the D Day invasion possible at a July 20 gathering at the Conejo Valley YMCA (4031 N. Moorpark Rd., Thousand Oaks). Heyman’s talk, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. is free and open to the public. Lunch is included.

Of the 16 million Americans who served during World War II, only about 620,000 are still living. “We need to hear their stories and experiences whenever we have the opportunity,” says Janice Wise, YMCA development director.

Heyman, who just turned 90, is a history buff and World War II scholar. A resident of University Village in Thousand Oaks, he frequently gives presentations on the different aspects of the war for University Village residents. “Arnie’s YMCA talk will mean more people, both young and old, can gain insight about the war and how it shaped our country,” says Wise. “He’ll also open it up to questions and to people who want to share their stories. It should be a fascinating event.”

After his time in the military, Heyman became a urologist and practiced for 33 years in Burbank while teaching residents at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. In 1987, he co-founded Neotech Products, Inc. that manufactures products for neonatal intensive care units. He currently is its medical director. He also serves on the research awards committee for STOP CANCER.
