You Ask: How Many Cars Does the City Own?
A Patch reader recently asked about the City's fleet of cars.

You asked: What are those white city cars parked near the library used for and how many does the City own?
Patch answers: According to Administrative Services Manager Jennifer Mellon, the city of Moorpark owns 21 cars, trucks and vans. Of these, two cars are electric and three (including two Prius cars) are used as city “pool” cars, meaning they are shared by the various city departments.
Seven trucks are assigned to the City’s Public Works Department. One car is assigned for code enforcement, and staff at Recreation, Parks, and Facilities are assigned 10 vehicles.

Of all the vehicles, the City only allows two to be taken home and parked, and even these are not intended for personal use. Rather, the Public Works superintendent and the Landscape Parks superintendent keep vehicles at home for emergency use only.
Mellon emphasized that “no city vehicles should be used for personal use.”
