Arrests Made In Area Car Burglary Spree: Mountain View Police

SANTA CLARA VALLEY, CA — Mountain View police announced the recent arrest of a 19-year-old man in connection with nearly 20 car burglaries in several area cities. Lamar Nicholson, 19, of Alameda, and a 16-year-old San Francisco boy were taken in custody Feb. 12 by Mountain View police detectives when the duo was allegedly spotted breaking into vehicles in Cupertino, according to a Mountain View Police Department news release.

The arrests were the result of a months-long investigation starting in summer 2017 when there was an uptick in auto burglaries in the area, police said. Items taken during the break-ins included laptops, cellphones and tablets, police say.

Detectives believe Nicholson is responsible for at least 19 of the car break-ins. In addition to the burglary allegations, he was arrested on suspicion of possession of burglary tools, conspiracy to commit a crime and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The 16-year-old arrested alongside Nicholson was not identified by police because of his age. According to police, the 16-year-old was arrested on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of burglary tools and providing a false name to police when he was initially caught. Following his arrest, the boy was released to a family member, police said.

Mountain View police say the San Jose Police Department Burglary Suppression Unit, investigators with the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office and investigators with the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety assisted in the investigation.
