Community-Building, Diversity-Focused Forum Planned For Mountain View
The citywide event will be in early 2017, planned by the Human Relations Commission.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – The City of Mountain View Human Relations Commission committed this week to planning and hosting a community-building forum in early 2017 with a focus of providing information and to reaffirm a citywide commitment to diversity, inclusivity, engagement and civility.
The impetus for this forum came from Mountain View residents who are concerned about the possibility of emerging discrimination and intolerance in the community. The goal is to foster better understanding of the role that local government, school districts, nonprofits and faith-based organizations have in ensuring residents live in a safe and welcoming environment.
The forum will acknowledge the different backgrounds and points of view in our community and provide a starting point for people to come together in support of safe and civil discourse.

“The City of Mountain View is a multi-faceted and diverse community that does a lot to engage and celebrate diversity. Diversity is seen as a treasure of our community. It’s in our DNA. It’s reflected in our Civility Roundtables, grant programs and award-winning affordable housing programs,” said Mayor Pat Showalter. “On behalf of my City Council colleagues, I am excited to support the development of a community building forum that demonstrates our commitment to being an inclusive and welcoming community for all of our residents.”
Planning for the community forum is beginning and the program, speakers and other logistical details will be announced in early 2017. The community forum will be a free event, and residents and employees of Mountain View businesses are encouraged to attend.
