The Palo Alto motorist, in his 70s and driving a 1993 Nissan Altima, was not injured, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said. There is no indication that either drugs or alcohol were a factor, the department said.

Palo Alto PD's Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the incident to determine whether the bicyclist did not stop at the stop sign while traveling eastbound on Greenwood, police said. The vehicle, which was proceeding northbound on Hutchinson, did not have a stop sign and struck the rider in the intersection.
